Today’s Health Care Landscape

The ability to provide and access quality health care in the U.P. and many other rural and regional economies is a privilege and not something Aspirus takes for granted. Given the profound pressures that rural and regional health care systems face, we need to continuously evaluate the landscape. Here is our approach:

Aspirus, like most similar systems, faces shrinking local economies and populations in the geographies it serves. The organizations face hurdles in attracting key talent. There is a declining workforce in the U.P., including specialty nurses and physicians. And add to this the challenging regulatory environment.

These and many other factors combine to create significant operational issues, which are prevalent among rural health care systems and hospitals across the country. We are committed to using foresight to navigate these challenges and advance our threefold commitment to our patients, to all our team members, and to the communities we serve. To do that, we must direct our resources where the need is highest. Doing so is critical to maintaining essential services in the communities we care for.

Aspirus operates in a shifting health care environment, and it is imperative that the organization exercises foresight and anticipate headwinds, so we make decisions that sustain us all, now and in the future.
